In my travels through the North End I have passed this van on numerous occassions. It always puts a smile on my face. As much as it is a burned out van, lacking wheels, it is also a work of art.

A Blast From The Past
We were looking through some old photos the other day and came across a group of pictures taken on Cathedral Ave in days gone by.
Here is a photo of my husband, as a young child, with his parents, in May 1961. They are standing on the sidewalk in front of the house his mother grew up in. In the background one can see Firehouse #13 at Aikins St and Cathedral Ave. It is a house now, but back then it was a working fire station.
The date is October 5, 1941 and a 2nd birthday party is being held in the front yard. It was my husbands mom again, with her friends and favorite doll.
This photo shows my husbands grandfather in his youth in the Spring of 1936. He is standing beside his sister, wife, and his parents. This is again on Cathedral Ave. On the front street sits a 1934 Essex. There was a corner store across the street at the time.
This is the earliest photo I have been able to find so far. It is from around 1905. The kids are standing on the wooden sidewalk on Cathedral Ave facing North. Their house is just off to the side. In the background can be seen a few houses. There were only a few houses on Cathedral Ave at the time as well.

A Walk Along The River
I went for a walk along the river, not alone of course, and during the day. In behind St Johns Park, going toward the Redwood Bridge there is a stairway made of stone. It looks like a very long time since it led anywhere.
The riverboats are parked along the river now. They are tied to the banks next to a huge pile of driftwood trees that have washed ashore.

A Walk Through St Johns Park
I took a walk through St Johns Park. The leaves have turned to their autumn colors now. It seems it only took a day for the leaves to all change color.
